The Divine Vespasian at the Colosseum.
The 2000th anniversary of the Flavian Dynasty
An important exhibition dedicated to the Flavian Dynasty with particular attention paid to Vespasian, the great emperor who was born 2000 years ago on 17 November, is currently underway (till January 2010). Vespasian is remembered as a simple man gifted with a notable sense of humour. It was precisely his humble origins and upbringing that allowed him to replace the most noted family of high nobility in ancient times, the Julio-Claudian Dynasty. The exhibition is displayed in various locations: la Curia in the Forum, which has been especially reopened to the public for this occasion, and the Criptoportico (Cybele’s temple) on the Palatine, which was built during Nero’s reign. Visitors are encouraged to visit the open air Flavian monuments such as the Arch of Titus, the Domus Flavia (Flavian Palace), the Temple of the Divine Vespasian and the Temple of Pace.
